President's Message

Dear Reader,
I hope you are well, enjoying what is turning out to be a lovely summer
and that you are having a great year as a member of JCI!!!
It's hard to believe the second half of the year is upon us! It's
been an extremely busy year so far and lots of exciting things have been
happening in JCI UK to work to build stronger foundations for the benefits
of all our members.
As per my last website update, I've recently attended the JCI European
Conference in Aarhus, Denmark. The European Conference takes place
every June and is a great event where JCI members from all over Europe come
together and features a number of key note speakers, training opportunities,
social evenings hosted by different countries. The week culminates with the
European Award ceremony and a gala dinner. This year we celebrated 3
awards winners!!! Anne Craven, JCI London, won the first timers award.
Solveig Malvik, JCI London, won the public speaking competition which means
she will now represent JCI UK at the World Public Speaking finals in Osaka,
Japan at the World Congress in November. JCI London also won the award
for Best Business Development Program for their Entrepreneruial Academy,
which has now being adopted by a number of other JCI countries which is a
fantastic testament to sharing best practice across the organisation.
On 21-23 June the JCI Global Partnership Summit was hosted by the United
Nations in New York. JCI is partnered with the UN Foundation and have
pledged to work with them in combatting malaria through the Nothing But Nets
campaign. JCI UK had 7 delegates at the event and contributed $300
towards the campaign. We were honoured to have Ban-Ki Moon, Secretary
General of the UN, speak to us at the Opening Ceremony. We were also lucky
enough to have coverage of our attendance by Wayne Clark, Managing Director
of Best Companies, by the HR on-line publication - details of his report
have been shared with all local Presidents so hopefully you have seen that.
More details of the events and speakers of the Summit are available at
www.jci.cc and provides a really good run
down of how such an event provides opportunities for all the JCI national
organisations and how they can contribute to a world wide initiative - a
true example of 'Local Action, Global Impact!'
I hope you all enjoy the rest of the Summer and I look forward to
bringing you the next update on JCI UK activities in a few weeks time.
Warmest regards
Lesley Young
